WTD helps ensure a warm welcome at Sophie's Place

Sophie’s Appeal, the Eastleigh-based charity which supports child cancer patients and their families and carers, has achieved much in five years, including the opening of Sophie’s Place, a children’s assessment area at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester.

The sign which greets visitors to Sophie’s Place was designed by WTD and produced by Bigstuff, following on from the firm’s donation 18 months ago of the now familiar pink and blue ‘star’ logo, and the charity’s website (www.sophiesappeal.org) which details its support, treatment and research (STAR) work in child cancer care.

Head of Design, Marc White, said: “Sophie’s Appeal is an incredibly deserving cause which has achieved amazing results in only a few years, and we are delighted to be able to help in this positive and practical way.”

Sophie’s Place is a quiet, child friendly area where children can be seen, monitored and treated away from the hustle and bustle of outpatient clinics and inpatient hospital beds, to help make their stay as short and pleasant as possible.

Co-founder Mike Barringer added: “Sophie’s Place is a wonderful, positive place, so we’re thrilled to have an appealing sign which exudes so much warmth. We are most grateful to WTD for their continued generosity and support.”

Sophie’s Appeal (part of the Sophie Barringer Trust) was started in 2003 by Lin and Mike Barringer following their daughter, Sophie’s, diagnosis with Wilm’s Disease, a condition which claimed six year old Sophie’s life in December 2004.
